2012 Leadership:
A Letter from new President Michael F. Burton:
Welcome to the website of the Virginia Chapter of the International Association of Special Investigations Units (IASIU). We are represented by more than 350 professionals committed to protecting Virginia's policyholders by investigating Insurance Fraud and submitting referrals to Law Enforcement and the Offices of the Commonwealth's Attorneys.
Insurance Fraud continues to be an $80 billion problem nationally, which, in the past, has been perceived as a civil issue; and one in which the “only” victim is the insurance industry. In truth, the actual victims are honest people who work to pay their insurance premiums to provide protection for their families’ health, personal property and business interests. Many remain unaware that Insurance Fraud is a criminal issue that ultimately costs each Virginia household in excess of $300 per year. Sadly, many victims have paid an even greater price resulting in loss of property, loss of income and, in some cases, loss of life.
We ask that you join our fight to make Virginia a better place to live and conduct business. Please report suspected acts of Insurance Fraud to your insurance company's Special Investigations Unit or by visiting stampoutfraud.com.

Mike Burton, returning president of the Virginia Chapter of the IASIU, accepted the gavel in 2011 from Don Fornoff, past president from 2010.
Founded in 1992 by a handful of insurance industry fraud investigators, the Virginia Chapter of the International Association of Special Investigation Units (VA-IASIU) is a non-profit organization dedicated to:
- Promoting a coordinated effort within the industry to combat insurance fraud;

- Developing greater awareness of the insurance fraud problem;
- Encouraging high professional standards of conduct among insurance investigators; and
- Supporting legislation that acts as a deterrent to the crime of insurance fraud.
